Mainer 2024 - A Review

2024 was a year dominated by elections, the Summer Olympics, followed by (what seemed like) incessant bad weather, before ending with a last-minute $300 billion climate finance deal at COP29. At Mainer Associates we welcomed new faces, new projects, and delivered key objectives for our clients. Here are our 2024 highlights...

Mainer Associates has joined other industry leaders as an official Fitwel Advisor
In this role, we hope to offer our expertise to help enhance the built environment in the UK market to implement positive health and wellbeing solutions.

The £36m Eden at New Bailey was completed.
On behalf of Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd and Muse , Mainer Associates were responsible for the ‘as built’ embodied carbon, and BREEAM Official assessments.

We were appointed by Landid to assess opportunities for further Carbon reductions to help transform a 44,000 sq ft office building in London.
We are tracking Whole Life Carbon, throughout design and delivery of the scheme.

New legislation for large developments will require a 10% increase in biodiversity net gain.
From February 12th 2024, new large developments will require a 10% increase in biodiversity net gain as party of new government legislation under the town and country planning act.

We attended the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) Advancing Net Zero event in Leeds.
Gaining insight into emerging guidance from the organisation, including The Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard.

Achieved over 300kgCO2/m2 of embodied carbon savings at 11&12 Wellington Place, Leeds.
Saved through systems developed by Mainer Associates on behalf Wates Group, tracking of carbon through procurement and construction. Click here to find out how we did it.

The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) launch new guidance to build greater accuracy and clarity of Scope 3 emissions reporting.
Mainer Associates are proud to have worked within the Embodied Carbon Task Group of 70+ experts, in a cross-industry team, focussing on improving industry understanding and ability to accurately measure and report on embodied carbon emissions.

We launched our CarbonCentric app, a carbon management app that is tailored to the client’s budget and embodied or whole life carbon intensity targets.
The app can be used from RIBA Stage 2/3, all the way through to practical completion, and beyond. Learn more about the CarbonCentric app here

April was a month of BREEAM Outstanding!

We delivered BREEAM Outstanding certification, for our clients, on the following projects:

We attended the annual UKREiiF convention in Leeds from the 21st to 23rd May.
We were part of the 10,000 delegates from the property industry who were looking to connect with people, places and businesses.

And we were shortlisted as ‘Consultancy Team of the Year’ at Insider Media NW Property Awards, in Manchester.
While we didn’t win that award, a project we worked on, Eden at New Bailey, won the Commercial Development of the Year.

Fitwel unveils V3 - Pioneering the Future of Healthy Building Certification
This update translates the latest public health research to optimize real estate assets for health and quality of life, future-proof them for climate adaptation, and maximize their value.

Mainer Associates' Dominic Wintie helped deliver a talk with Sam Watkins to TP Bennett.
Highlighting a recent project, they presented a case study which focused on embodied carbon and circular economy.

BREEAM Expertise in the Light Industrial Building Sector.
We have extensive experience in achieving the highest BREEAM ratings in the Light Industrial Buildings Sector, ranging from Offices, through Industrial, R&D, Retail and Healthcare buildings. Our July article looked at how Mainers BREEAM expertise can help you.

We were delighted to announce that Ben Sidebottom has joined us to lead our Sustainability Assessment department.

Mainer Associates are proud to assist our clients in achieving post construction certifications for BREEAM Outstanding – the highest rating a building can achieve within a BREEAM assessment. Our August article looks at how we did it.

We welcomed our newest graduate sustainability consultants Lucy Summerell and Anna Berger.
Lucy and Anna have both come through the Mainer Academy to join us this month. Read about them and how are previous graduates have progress in Septembers article.

The new BREEAM Version 7 has introduces several changes and enhancements to sustainability standards for buildings.

LET’S PLAY DARTS!
The team took time out and, as a company, stepped up to the oche for some competitive darts. Hosted by Flight Club, in Manchester, we witnessed all levels of darts expertise, and followed it by some delicious pizza at Franco Manca.

We welcome another new addition to the company, Alex Thompson.
Alex will be joining our Sustainability Assessment department, at senior level, and has already integrated himself the team and our current projects.

And finally…our graduate sustainability consultant, Lucy Summerell was officially confirm as a Carbon Literacy Facilitator.
She is excited to continue developing a course for the built environment with Mainer Associates in the New Year.
